LAURINBURG, NC - The St. Andrews University women's basketball team dropped their conference game to Point University (Ga.) at home Saturday afternoon falling 71-55.

Point outscored SAU 22-14 in the second quarter after the Knights came out fast in the first quarter taking an 18-12 lead. Point would then lead 34-32 at halftime shooting 47 percent with SAU putting up 40.7 percent.

Point then outscored the Knights 17-12 and 20-11 over the final two quarters shooting 42 percent to go on for the 16-point win. Point was led by the 21 point performance from Deja Smith, who went 6 of 9 from three-point range.

Freshman point guard LeeAysia Williamson (FR/Greensboro, NC) led the Knights with 18 points, five rebounds, and a team-best three assists and four steals, but struggled from 3-point range. SAU, as a whole, struggled from the arc as they shot only 10% from deep.

Junior forward Ellen Dukes (JR/Augusta, GA) then contributed a team-high 9 rebounds, with 8 points, and two blocks defensively while senior guard Kayla Johnson (SR/Greensboro, NC) added a season-high 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in the loss.

Johnson and Williamson were the only Knights to finish in double-digit scoring. Johnson has now totaled multiple assists in each of her last four games.

Freshmen Victoria Washington (FR/Fredericksburg, VA) and Kayla Smith (FR/Lynchburg, VA) also combined for 14 points and 8 rebounds with Smith adding two steals. Washington's six rebounds tied a season-high as well.

SAU falls to 5-16 overall and 2-14 in the conference with the loss while Point improves to 18-5 overall and 11-5 in the AAC.

SAU will next be in action when they remain home on Wednesday to host Reinhardt University Ga. (20-3) at 5:30 PM inside Harris Court.
