Locust Grove, Ga.- The St. Andrews University Men's Golf team competed at the AAC Spring conference tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Eagle's Brooke Country Club in Locust Grove, Georgia and finished 7th overall, three shots back of fifth place SCAD-Atlanta, the host school.

However, the Knights finished fifth overall out of ten AAC teams when combining the scores from the fall tournament, 608 in the fall and 623 in the spring. Reinhardt University (Ga.) won the spring tourney with a 595 score and a conference-best 292 score in round two. SAU's spring scores were a 311 in round one and a 312 in round two, one shot shy of Montreat for 6th.

Individually, SAU was led by junior Carlo Stella (JR/Milan, Italy) as he placed in a tie for 6th overall with consecutive scores of 74 for a 148 (+4 over par) and only two shots back of the three-way tie for first at 146.

Junior Daniel Wieck (JR/Oviedo, FL) then finished second on the Knights and in a tie for 19th place (+9) at 153 (77-76) while Freshman Alberto Firpi (FR/Puerto Rico) was next for the Knights finishing in 40th place with scores of 80 and 81 for a 161.

Fellow freshman Javier Pino Rider (FR/Seville, Spain) then came in fourth on SAU and 43rd overall with scores of 82 and 81 for a total of 163 while sophomore Corey Johnson (SO/Oxford, NC) wrapped up the scoring for the Knights as he tied with Pino Rider for 43rd with rounds of 80 and 83.

Individually, SAU had juniors John Lyle (JR/Goodview, VA) and Alex Austin (JR/Salisbury, NC) play well with Lyle shooting an impressive 77 in round one followed by an 87 in round two to come in 47th at 164 while Austin had rounds of 83 and 82.

The men are next in action April 18-19 at the AAC Direct NAIA Qualifier in Acworth, GA.
